How are peoples’ wishes different? Do they change depending on where you live in the country? Does age or gender matter? What do you want? What would you change? What is acceptable and what is unacceptable?
A team of geographers aim to find some basic patterns to show what people dream for and where. It will also discover what you think is most unacceptable in life and if some parts of the country think that kissing in public is more acceptable than others….
You must be in Britain and in KS3 (Years 7, 8 or 9) to take part in this research. The data collected will end up playing a part on some of your geography lessons!

Hello Y7! Some people have emailed me about your first homework task so I thought I would stick a little reminder on the blog.
In lessons so far we have been looking at what geography is actually about. In a simple way, geography is the study of the Earth’s surface and its people. Some people find it helpful to split the subject into two parts, human and physical geography.
Physical geography is about the natural world. These are the natural things in the world that people have no control over. So that could be everything from mountains to rivers and lots more in between!
Human geography is about the things in the world that people have created. That could be
everything from the places we live to the money we use to buy goods.
The world around us all is a mixture of both human and physical geography. When you look out a window you can see some things that are natural (physical geography) and some things people have put there by people (human geography). Soon, we will look at how human and physical geography are linked together.
Your job is to write about the physical and human geography in a place that is important to you. You can download the help sheet by clicking this link.
You can always email me what you have done and I’ll check over it before it is due in to see if you are heading in the right direction.

Hello Y7! The concept maps you have drawn about how weather might be linked to topics we have studied so far this year were really impressive. Being able to explain the links between topics is the sign of a good geographer, so well done!

This week we continued our investigations into weather and one of the questions we wanted to answer was, how do clouds form? For homework this week, visit the Cloud Appreciation Society website and look at the various photographs of cloud look-a-likes.

Hello Y7! We had a good lesson today on how we are going to address the problems of traffic in urban areas. We all thought that the answer will lie in restricting private car usage rather than making improvements to cope with an increasing number of cars.
In London, they have designed a system which aims to restrict private car use in the central part of the city. This scheme has many advantages, but also some disadvantages. Next lesson we are going to have a full class discussion on what the advantages and disadvantages are. Read the following sites carefuly and make some notes on the follwoing…
(1) What is good about the congestion charge?
(2) What is bad about it?
(3) Would it work in Leicester now?
(4) Will we need one in Leicester after the city centre gets redeveloped?
