7 facts about me…

January 4, 2009 · 1 Comment

I was very kindly invited to play the 7 things you don’t know about me “blogging game” by Alan Parkinson. I have been neglecting this blog for a while and would like to start posting a little more frequently so this seems like a good way to begin, big thanks Alan!

7 Things you might not know about me…

(1) For those people fortunate enough to have never met me, you might be unaware that I’m quite a tall chap.I’m 6ft 7 and the usual line upon meeting me for the first time is… “Blimey, you are very tall”.

(2) Between 1996 and 2001 I used to be a DJ in several clubs in Leicester and Plymouth playing Drum and Bass and Underground Garage… Reeeeeeeeewind!

(3) I didn’t really like school as a youngster. I was the typical underachieving male who didn’t seem able to find much reward from his classes. If you had told me I was to be a teacher when I was older I would have laughed you out of town. Things changed dramatically when I was given / realized I had, ownership over my learning. I try to keep that in mind as a teacher when I run into students who remind me of my younger self.

(4) After a good number of years chewing it over -  I can confidently say that I am an atheist :)

(5) I spent a few years training in Muay Thai – I was pretty hopeless at it but having circus sized arms and legs I found I could fend off the attackers for a while!

(6) After recent reflection I think that a handful of key things motivate me – Being the best I can be in what I do, feeling that what I do makes a difference, learning new things and bringing into existence things that were not there before.

(7) I really enjoy cooking. Eating and drinking with other people is a wonderfully rewarding past time! Your all more than welcome to come over for a munch!
